No Word Yet On Next Game and Art's DSL

No work yet on the forthcoming game night. I will update as soon as Dominica tells me yay or nay. There will definitely be a game at somepoint within the upcoming fortnight.

Art called tonight to let me know that he has ordered Frontier's Lightning Link DSL service so he will soon be able to play via the VPN connection. Phil has been talking about getting a broadband connection as well. With Josh, Art and Danielle all able to play via the VPN now, we are in much better shape for space in the house during the game.

Last Friday's Game 25_3_2005

We had a good turnout this past Friday. Seven players made it out for the game. Scott, Min, Josh, Art, Danielle, Jeremy and Andy were all able to play. We managed to get in two games during the night and the results were:

[Andy + Art + Dominica] vs. [Scott + Jeremy + Danielle]
Somewhat balanced. First team dominated for most of the game.

[Andy + Dominica + Josh + Danielle] vs. [Scott + Jeremy + Art]
Very well balanced. Outcome difficult to determine until very late in game. Andy played Vikings. Dominica, Saracens. Josh, Goths. Danielle, Chinese. Scott, Spanish. Jeremy, Franks. Art, Teutons.

It was a good week. The game ran until about 1:30 am. Josh managed to play via VPN connection during the second game and this worked very well. The two PIII computers were noticeably slow. The computer speed and memory appears to make a much greater difference than the link speed.

Phil is investigating getting either cable or DSL in order to be able to play remotely via VPN.

Upcoming Game

The next Friday Night Game is expected to be on March 25th in Geneseo. AoE2 as usual. I am expecting Min, Andy and I for sure. If everyone could check in in the comments, we will have a good idea of who is going to be coming. Also please note whether you will be playing here in Geneseo or if you will be coming in through the VPN tunnels.

Game Date: 25 March 2005
Game Time: 7:30 PM (Please be onsite BEFORE 7:30)

Please check in to be sure there is space.

The Game

Okay, we now have an official page for the Friday Night Game! We were hosting this information over at Sheep Guarding Llama but it will be easier and more convenient to host it over here at BlogSpot so we are moving it over to here. This will make it easier for people to collaborate a little bit on the site and to leave information here easily about who is and is not attending the game.

So what is the game? On Friday nights, we host a LAN party over here in Geneseo, NY. The game has become pretty popular. We usually play Age of Empire II - we tried a number of other games over the years but AoE2 has risen to the top of the heap and has remained for quite some time. Some other games worth mentioning are Call of Duty, Quake II, Quake III and Empire Earth.

Game nights are often limited to just eight players. Space is often limited. Computer parts and supplies are limited so be sure to check in if you aren't planning on bringing an entire rig with you. Even keyboards and mice are in limited supply so be prepared.

And welcome to the new site!
